The Take Off!
My cousin and I decided to take a seven day backpacking trip to California!. 6/14/2014-6/21/2014 It was My first time ever flying so this whole trip was an experience for me - We took the Southwest Airlines. The plane ride was totally awesome and can't wait for another one! In this blog I will tell you about the entire trip, what we did, what we saw, how we got around, and in the order it went down! Keep a look out on our video, but until then, check out some others we have on our YouTube.
The Eagles Have Landed!
After a four hour flight to Los Angeles, CA Air port, LAX - we finally land! The plane ride was super cool for my first time, seeing the clouds in such a way - Totally worth it! Gotta see that before you pass on. Soon as we got out, our first stop was Tempest Freerunning Academy South Bay! So, got a cab and went straight there! Oh! Cabs are super expensive in LA so be careful!
We took a cab from the LAX to Tempest Freerunning Academy: South Bay. For those who don't really know, Tempest was the first parkour gym to pop up in the United States so this was a place all parkour practitioners wanted to go.
We only had enough time to hit up South Bay although it was a blast and we did a lot of leveling up. The place is super huge and there were a lot of things in this gym that were intimidating!
Wake Up! Venice Beach.
So after getting up at 5:00am, then the plane ride, and the long hours of straight up training at Tempest we are pooped out! So, we hit the sleeping bag to get some good rest for Venice beach!
Venice Beach was absolutely awesome and must see! For you gamer's, it is exactly how it is in Grand Theft Auto 5! The graffiti walls and trees are there and it was so cool. If you don't know much about them, go look at them on their website! The staff actually go in every single day and swipe white paint on the walls for the next days worth of graffiti and the staff do this just for the graffiti artists! It's a way for them to do and show their skills and without doing it in such places where it shouldn't be done! What a great way for the city to change the world.
After some long hours of training and filming, we just relaxed on the beach.
watching the sun, the waves of the ocean, and a lot of the entertainers. We have seven days, so we don't want to out do ourselves. The next day, we met up with Robbie Corbett! He showed us some of the great places to train and level up at UCLA!
After the long transit we have met up with Robbie Corbett at UCLA, University of California, Los Angeles. Robbie is one heck of a dude! Robbie is a W.F.P.F. athlete and is known for his work on The Heartless (2012), Nazi Zombies: I Think We're Alone Now (2011) and Best Friends Forever (2013). Hes coordinated a lot of stunts like in The Underground Railroad, Ditch Day Massacre, and Best Friends Forever. He also has a YouTube channel so go see his new gig he just did with JumpStart! :D It was so great training with you man! Hope to meet you again!
The picture below is a popular spot known as the "David Belle" gap we talked about forever doing a kong pre..it didn't happen, way too scary haha. Remember to train smart and safe, never do anything without progressing to it. Next time though!
About 3:00pm we all split ways, Robbie had to teach at a gym so Ryan and I went about exploring rest of the campus looking for more training spots. Ground level or..up high!
Where The Magic Happens - Hollywood
The next day we got up (5) five o'clock and our next stop was Hollywood!! The community here were so kind, everything looked quite and calm so it was nice walking through the streets and then a great long hike to the Hollywood sign!
Venice! Venice! Venice!
Like I said before, every day the walls have something different, so today we seen this and it was truly a work of art, masterpiece! The man in the middle is the artist, so you all should go see more of is work at His Instagram. Really great person and I wish him the best in his art. Thanks for the photo.
Take A Kitkat!
After a crazy training session and that cannabis cookie we decided to take a break and enjoy where we were and appreciate the beautiful weather. We woke up, got breakfast at a local Starbucks in Pasadena, found a nice shady spot, and took a small nap. We walked around the area and scouted out some spots to train for tomorrow and came across some side walk chalk art and an university.
After training the whole day, we stopped at a small place on the campus and rested our bodies. The weather is so nice here you can easily fall asleep. Ready for our last visit at Tempest!
Farewell The Golden State
After Tempest, we headed back to our uncle and aunt's place for a great night rest and a great early morning breakfast before we headed out back to Missouri! Now, before I go and end this here I wanted to give a recognition and a thanks to these two people. These two are well past their 80's and for everything they have done for us, especially on such short notice and for just meeting them! They gave us a place to sleep on most nights, and fed us breakfast and dinner. It was so nice and appreciated. The man has served his time in the military so I would like to thank him for serving and protecting our freedom, back then the days were very difficult, I mean..we are going back to the Great Depression, so again, thank you! The lil' lady was very kind and genuine and always asking what we wanted, how we felt or needed, she was very thoughtful, thank you so much. We appreciated everything you two did.
