EVERYONE STARTS SOMEWHERE
If you're reading this that probably means you're ahead of the game and don't want to make the common mistakes that first time bloggers do. Like me, before I do/try anything I do my research. If you can't teach me what you're talking about then that means you aren't educated enough. Hopefully this will help you avoid the five (5) Noob Oops!
1. AUTO - LOADING MUSIC
This is the music you hear when you're on the website, please for the sake of your readers - KNOCK IT OFF! No one enjoys elevator music! That's exactly what it feels like, BORING, annoying and awkward. Plus it's a bandwidth hog, it will make your blog load very slowly.
2. FONT, COLOR VS BACKGROUND COLOR
This is more about the usability and the ability to actually read your blog. You don't want a red background with yellow font. Reading online is already harder on your eyes than traditional pencil and paper.
3. TOO MUCH CLUTTER
An organized and uncluttered website goes a long way with readers. Less clutter, the more white space you have. This will allow you to help lead your readers towards specific content, your photos, and headlines will stand out more. De-cluttering will allow easier navigation for your readers and the fewer items competing for your readers attention - They'll be directed to whats important.
4. ACCIDENTAL PLAGIARISM (PHOTOS)
plagiarism IS THE PRACTICE OF TAKING SOMEONE ELSE'S WORK OR IDEAS AND PASSING THEM OFF AS YOUR'S. For example, if you copied and pasted my blog or someone else's to a publishing source and claimed it as your's...that's plagiarism!
5. USING "CLICK HERE" VS KEYWORD PHRASES TO LINK OTHER LINKS
wHEN CHOOSING YOUR LINK WORDS, THINK CAREFULLY. wHEN YOU WANT OR NEED TO INSERT A LINK MAKE SURE TO STAY AWAY FROM "FIND IT HERE" OR "CLICK HERE" AND GO MORE ON PHRASES, FOR EXAMPLE:
THE BOTTOM SENTENCE IS MORE EFFECTIVE BECAUSE IT HAS KEYWORD PHRASES.
6. ALLOWING BLOGGING TO BECOME WORK
As much as you enjoy having the passion in writing or blogging don't make it become work - no one likes work! It's okay to take a break and enjoy whats around you like friends, family, explore your city, or anything that makes you happy. Otherwise life will pass you by and you won't have any clue where it went. Try making blogging a weekly thing where you blog once a week. In this you're more focused in writing, your brain is fresh, spent time with other hobbies, and you avoid writers block.
