Home of the Eagles
I am originally from a small town, called Sullivan about sixty miles East of Highway 44 with about 8000 residents. I have family that live all over the surrounding areas, Cuba! When I was 19 I moved out of my parents in Strain Japan which is a very small country town outside of Sullivan which was about a thirty minute commute. I moved in with my aunt in Leasburg which is fifteen minutes from Sullivan so when I say home sweet home it means the whole area within twenty miles. Sullivan, Leasburg, Cuba, and even Rolla are all very small rural towns with the average population of 7,500. So lets just say everyone kinda knows everyone or at least something about that person.
Gravy Train, Biscuit Wheels
This week for wandering Wednesday Ryan and I went back home to visit our family and to show you some of our roots where we grew up at. we started the day out by eating breakfast with our fam, and my favorite is biscuits and gravy and that's what we have every Sunday! We are a very close tight family so everyone comes to my aunt's where we all sit at the table and eat while having "table talk" which is where we BS about general topics, gossip, vent, and reminisce. I personally don't get to see my family that much so I try to make it out at least once a week so it was so great to see them after probably a month or two. After eating Ryan and I started our day with visiting our family, aunts, uncles, mom, dads, and close friends.
We Fall To Learn To Pick Ourselves Back Up
We wanted to be sure we visited our family before really getting involved with anything because with my family, Ry and I wouldn't hear the end of it - haha. After eating and visiting we got ready to go to hit up Forest City Trail to do some mountain biking which is something I really enjoy to do! It was such a great day to do all of this too considering it was super nice outside so we better take advantage of it while we can, Missouri weather is very bipolar which means it changes seasons on any given day, I'm not even kidding around either. after spending a few hours biking we decided to head out while it was still day light and hit up some old training locations around the area.
After we finished up biking and filming we hit up some of our old training spots for parkour and freerunning. Coming from a small town we didn't have much to work with but we managed to create some cool stuff with what we had starting with the museum which is just a small museum show casing some WW1 type of history, never been in there actually but it looks interesting. We couldn't stay long so we did a few things and moved on to the church and some other places around the area.
Friends Now, Friends Then, Still Friends
Call me old but after biking and training I was getting pooped out so we made plans to see a dear friend, Cory Downing! It's been a long time since we have seen each other so we made special plans to go see him and his new baby boy! Cory has been a huge motivation in Ryan's life and inspiration to me, because if it wasn't for him Ryan would have never known anything about parkour and neither would I. Cory has some videos out there so be sure to check him out below.
Art Is never Finished, Only Abandoned
After hanging with Cory we headed back to the country and along the way what used to be someone's home is now abandoned because the old man that lived there passed away and now his, i believe daughter owns the house and property. Ryan and I couldn't help but not go check things out.
We didn't spend much time in the old man's house because it was only a house so it wasn't very big but it was interesting checking it out and getting an idea how some people live or still live. The abandoned house is just literally up the road about one minute from my aunt. It was getting dark so we headed out with plans to play in the back yard where we did most of our tricking because there the grass feels super soft and it's open. After it got dark we went back to my cousin Danny's to check out his theater room and Ryan and I played Dying Light!
